While thinking about an ebook to market, I ran across a website saying that I could actually make my own program with a program creator. I thought it was a lot of B.S., but after looking at some examples, I understood what it was all about.
One of the great examples was a sales letter creator. Just type in a headline, sub-headline, and the benefits of your product or service. After clicking a button, it would spit out a great sales letter.
Using this product in this way is great. I just didn't like the fact that the software insinuated that it could be used to make software (like any kind). I had to hunt around Google to figure out what it was about. It was a simple software program, with simple libraries, that could create basic logic programs.
Although I thought I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out what it was about, it was a great brain stimulator. I hunted around for more software creators. I checked out download.com and sourceforge.net. I ended up stumbling across video game engines.
A night after that, I spoke to my wife about a situation with one of my family members. There was a very common problem within her organization. A few seconds later, I realized that I could actually solve it indirectly (with a video game).
[For those of you that don't understand what the heck I'm talking about, think about how Robert Kiyosaki has helped people understand money with his board game "Cashflow 101".]
I did some keyword research and it was a great niche. There were no affiliate marketers that have tapped the niche yet. There was barely any affiliate programs related to what I'm doing, and there was ZERO companies on the internet doing what I'm about to do.
Although the video gaming industry is very competitive, can you think of any indirect ways you could market a game? If you think video games are too hard to make, think again. There's a variety of video game engines that have pre-programmed libraries to make your life easier.
So the lessons I learned were 1)think outside of the box and 2)create an affiliate program for something that has a high demand and may not exist.
