How To Stop Spambots From Stealing Your Email Address

If you've listed your email address on your website, I'm sure you've been bombarded with SPAM.

Tons of email addresses are taken from websites manually, or through computer programs called SPAMbots. They rip email addresses for the sole purpose of spamming.

One of the best ways to avoid these SPAM programs from taking advantage of your email address is to use a contact form.

Using a server side form will hide your email address from site visitors, as well as SPAMbots.

If you're not sure how to set up a form, you can also encrypt your email address.

A site that I use is Email Riddler from Dynamic Drive. It will encrypt your email so that it is hidden from the SPAMbots.

All you have to do is enter your email address, link text, and an optional subject line, click on the button and a javascript is automatically generated for you. Just copy it and paste it into your website where your email or contact us code would usually go.

Hi Charles,

Using javascript is a neat idea. The only drawback to it though is that people that have turned off their javascript in their web browsers for some reason or other will not be able to view it.

I would recommend creating a simple GIF image with your email address on it and include that on your webpage.

Hey Chris,

I was using that same idea before. However, some SPAMbots have technologically advanced using OCR. So email addresses rasterized in GIF's would be extracted.

So the other solution of using an email form would be the preferred choice.

I'm not sure if it's possible to install scripts on Blogger (since I'm not hosting it). So I'm using the javascript here.

I figure, if people don't have javascript enabled, they could always leave a blog comment.

I don't think idea of hiding your email would be good for your site reanking as you would be needing it for link exchange.Instead , you should create a web form or autoresponder emails with white lists/blacklists to block spams .
